The Pen Still Rules
You would think that a pen is passé with all the brouhaha made over a notebook PC and the surge to popularity of the virtual communication in the web. Pen manufacturers might think that they are doomed. However, their worries are unfounded. People constantly reach for pens whenever they have something to write. Pens are still used by millions of writers to pour their thoughts and hearts out. Pens are still used by lawmakers to draft laws to govern the land. They are still used to do the mundane task of jotting down the grocery list.
People still value pens. Open a desk drawer and you will see not one but several pens. A person would not usually leave the house without a pen in his pocket or bag. Because of this, a pen is still a powerful tool to convey a company’s message to the people.
Using a pen as a promotional item could gain a company many benefits. For one, a pen is very functional. How many times do you use a pen every day? Even people who are constantly using a computer would still reach for a pen to sign checks. A pen has a big “pass along” quality. Leave a pen in your desk and it will surely be grabbed by a coworker. A pen is always loaned. A pen imprinted with the company logo will therefore provide the company with maximum exposure. Name recall will be effectively generated not only to the owner but also to other people who used the pen.
A pen is affordable. A single high end electronic gadget or an upscale golf item would be equal to several hundreds of pens. Using a pen to promote the company is economically viable. The company can stretch the advertising fund to reach a wider target.
A promotional pen has a long advertising life. The company logo as well as the marketing slogan will be imprinted in the minds of the user as long as the pen is used. A user could get attached to an attractive pen so that instead of throwing the pen away once the ink is gone, the pen will be kept as a desk decoration.
Just like you, other companies use promotional pens to advertise their products. It would be up to you to ensure that your pen will stand out from the rest. Aim for a pen that would be attractive and easy to use as the more the customer uses it, the more you can be benefited.

I love pens!! As much as I enjoy computer graphics and e-mail, there is nothing like a real pen in the hand, or dipping a steel nib into a glass bottle of ink.
I like it when companies give out promotional pens. Recently, a book wholesaler offered a free promotional pen with any order and I definitely made time to send an order in. When you think about it, it’s a really cheap premium incentive, but one that people value because we all write, every day, at home or at work.
Great post.
