Relieving Your Tension Through Lifestyle Changes
Tensions are the most common causes of headaches and other pains we feel within our body. Sometimes, we are aware that it is the underlying factor of our unexplainable discomforts, while most of the time, we are not aware of it. Because of these tensions that we feel, we are prevented from doing things which we usually do; instead, we just doze off in the couch to let the pain and tension pass. Usually, what people do to relieve these tensions is to take anti-anxiety drugs and sedatives but actually, these drugs does assure us of a lifelong relief from these tensions that we feel. In fact, anti-convulsive and sedatives may cause dependence in the part of the individual. The effect of these drugs are just temporary which means that each time a person feels tension and anxiety, taking one or more tablet is the next thing to do.
What, therefore, is the intervention which one can do in order to prevent these tensions from happening over and over again?
Exercise Daily. Exercising is a good way to help avoid tension. By exercising, our muscles get relaxed thus, making the chances of becoming tense lesser. With relaxation of the muscles, we get to control the previous routine of our muscles which is to get uptight in times of distress and anxiety. Through exercise techniques, we may find ourselves becoming relaxed as time passes and when the moment of anxiety or stress comes, we may fight against it immediately.
Avoid Caffeine. We all know that caffeine contributes to an increase in muscle tension. It is said that continuous intake of caffeine actually triggers flight response. It also increases our cardiac rate which further increases our tension. Since caffeine has some good effects on our body, it also has some consequences. In this case, it is recommended that we just limit our caffeine intake so as to balance its effects.
Maintain Good Posture. Good posture is a determinant whether or not a person is likely to experience anxiety and tension. Sometimes we get so tired of sitting or standing when we are at work and this actually contributes to an increase in the chances of being tensed. Changing positions after some time is recommended. Also, avoiding postures which applies too much pressure in parts of our body such as slouching should be avoided.
The best thing one could do in order to relieve tension naturally is through modifying his lifestyle and reshaping his routines and attitudes which causes these intermittent tensions. Although it may take longer to relieve tension through these actions compared to that of taking medicines, these lifestyle changes may help you avoid dependence on drugs, and may furthermore improve your stress and tension management.
